Have you noticed how speedy Portable Shops has become this last week? We’ve been playing around and fixing things on our end to help you upload stock, collections and content faster.

We’ve applied the upgrades across all stores, so your customers should notice the changes too.

If this still isn’t fast enough for you, switch to our Pro Plan and make haste with superior Cloud Hosting at no extra charge.

The Australian Retailers Association Support’s E-Commerce?

Say what? No — it can’t be true! The Australian Retailers Association (ARA) are one of the key players lobbying the Australian Government to investigate the fairness of online retailing. Given their primary focus is to “promote and protect retailers”, surely they wouldn’t support E-Commerce?

Excuse my ignorance, but it’s true — hurrah for E-Commerce. According to Ragtrader, the ARA hosted the first in a series ‘Engage in E-tail’ seminars for retailers early this week, attracting over 150 retailers. Well, we hate to boast, but dahhh, that’s why we created an E-Commerce platform dedicated to fashion designers and boutiques alike.

Thought we’d share this with you to keep your eye on the money — literally.

p.s. Note their mention of Dhini not once, but twice in the one newsletter. Big congrats to Dhini on her collaboration with Sportsgirl.

Candela’s Fall/Winter 2011 Lookbook:

We know a thing or two about fashion here at Portable — in fact, we’ve got covered it across multiple platforms. Video Lookbooks are the next best thing for designers and boutiques alike and while most e-commerce platforms don’t provide the means to support them, we go above and beyond. Check out Portable TV’s coverage of Candela’s Fall 2011 Lookbook here.

We love to support our Portable Shops clients and we have the means to do so. If you’ve created the bees knees in fashion video lookbooks, shoot it through to our Executive Editor, Alia Kahan and we’ll have one of our writers give it the once over.

It’s here …

Why be modest! We’ve been working round the clock here at Portable Shops to bring you the latest, and unquestionably best looking E-Commerce template ever to grace the World (Wide Web). It’s sleek, it’s sexy, and it’s a match made in heaven for fashion designers and boutiques. We’d even go as far as saying that fashion and Paris are the new beans and rice, or peanut butter and jelly for that matter.

Think we’re being extreme? Have a look at Isoude’s store below and give it a whirl with your own Portable Shop. To change your template, login to your store and select Design > Templates > Paris Template.

Adding the Facebook Application to your Portable Shop

The Portable Shops Facebook App allows you to sell your entire collection through your Facebook Fan Page, allowing your customers to buy from where they spend most of their time.

Add this feature to your portable shop simply by logging into your account and selecting the ‘install on facebook now’ button to the right of the screen.

If you’re not already signed into your facebook account you’ll be asked to login. Then, you’ll be taken to a page which says the portable shops application has been added successfully to your account.

Note - the next step will only work if you are an admin to your facebook fan page i.e. you have administrational access. If you didn’t create the page, you’ll have to get an existing admin to permit you as an admin too.

If your fan page has been created previously and you’re an admin to that page, simply click the link to ‘Portable Shops Application Page’ and divert to the ‘Online Store’ application.

Under the question mark in the top left-hand corner select ‘Add to my page’ and the fan page (or pages) that you’re an admin to will appear in a pop up window. Then simply select the desired location for the store by clicking ‘Add to page’.

Head to your facebook fan page where your new ‘Online Store’ tab should be visible at the top or down the side of the page, depending if you have the new or old version of facebook fan page. If you can’t see it, select the ‘+’ icon in the tab menu (to start a new tab) then ‘Online Store’. Nearly Finished!

And finally, simply fill out your Portable Shops details in the space provided to link this application to your account.

Add Discounts and Coupons to your Portable Shop

Offering coupons to customers when they purchase from your store is a great way to increase traffic and online sales.

The ‘Coupons’ option can be found by signing into your portable shops account and selecting the ‘Online Store’ option in the main menu.

Once there, simply select ‘create a coupon’ and fill in the relevant information i.e. expiry date, number of vouchers, amount etc. Whether you choose to generate a code automatically or type in one yourself - this is the code you will send out in your email to the selected customers.

In order to redeem a coupon, the customer will choose an item from your store and, before checking out, enter the code in the section provided and hit ‘redeem’.

The system will then automatically recalculate the amount of the item  according to the discount you provided, and the customer will proceed to check out or continue shopping.

This feature comes free with the light, premium and pro plans. However if you are currently on the basic plan and not looking to upgrade, you can opt to purchase ‘discounts and coupons’ as an additional feature. Just visit the ‘billing’ section of your portable shop.
